A family-friendly Sunday afternoon brought our community together to hear from two inspiring speakers — Michelle Impey, CEO of Save the Kiwi, and Ana Christmas, CEO of Forest Bridge Trust. They shared powerful insights into why kiwi belong in our local bush and what it will take to bring them home.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Muriwai Marvels – Kiwi Edition. With around 300 people turning up, the Surf Club was buzzing with energy, curiosity, and community spirit.
It was incredible to see so many locals engaging with our projects — from predator control and penguin protection to our latest efforts with the rare and endangered plants of Muriwai. Our project leads were on hand to answer questions and offer practical advice, especially on trapping — we had great conversations about what works, what to try, and how to get started in your own backyard.
The native plant nursery team also put on a beautiful display, and many of you went home with a seedling grown right here in Muriwai. These plants are more than just a garden addition — they’re part of our local story, grown from eco-sourced seed, and ready to help regenerate our whenua.
We were also thrilled to welcome new MET members into the fold — thank you to everyone who signed up to support the mahi. Your contributions help keep our projects thriving, and ensure our local environment is protected for future generations.
Ngā mihi nui to all who came, asked questions, signed up, or just showed your support. Muriwai Marvels is all about celebrating what’s possible when a community comes together — and this was a perfect example of that in action.
Let’s keep the momentum going.
